The group oversees the provision of researcher development for research staff including action planning.
In 2008, the University established a Researcher Development Working Group, consisting of staff from across the University, to oversee the implementation of the Concordat and Researcher Development Framework.

Collectively the group oversees the provision of researcher development for research staff including action planning from the Careers in Research Online Survey (CROS) and the Principle Investigators and Research Leaders Survey (PIRLS) results and the research staff mentoring scheme.
In January 2019, the RDWG hosted its third biennial researcher development conference, which was open to all University staff and research students.
