Programme Leaders Toolkit
The online Programme Leaders Toolkit can be found on Canvas (Herts login required). The purpose of this toolkit is to enable new programme leaders to learn about the multi-faceted role requirements and the crucial knowledge and skills that characterise effective and successful programme leadership. It is hoped that the toolkit will help newly appointed programme leaders to adjust and acclimatize to their new leadership role and working environment and make the transition as smooth as possible.
It is envisaged that the toolkit will also provide a valuable bank of information for the more experienced programme leader and enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively and enhance their practice and ultimately the student and staff experience. The intention is also to promote awareness of how programme leaders can develop or enhance further the skill set and expertise needed for the role and to grow as a leader at the University. In this way it is anticipated that this toolkit will support the creation of a cadre of HEA Fellowships within the programme leader community. The toolkit comprises a number of units and within each are pages of more specific information that is key to the programme leader role.
A series of Top Tips are presented throughout this resource. These tips have been provided and written by current programme leaders and key staff who work alongside programme leaders in the University. The intention of the Top Tip is to cascade learning across the University and bring the role 'alive' helping all programme leaders in the day to day management and leadership of their programme. They are all highlighted in green for ease of recognition.
The Toolkit is continually evolving. We anticipate that it will develop over time, and we will endeavour to keep it updated with any new information that may have an impact on your role. Should you wish to add to the toolkit, provide some useful questions for a frequently asked questions section or even any top tips for fellow programme leaders, please do not hesitate to get in touch. This resource is for you and to support you in your role. It is worthy of note that the content of the resource has been guided by extensive feedback from programme leaders and a number of key stakeholders across the University. Contributions have been made by many all of which are acknowledged throughout the resource.
Contributions to the toolkit have been made by a wide range of staff across the University all of whom engage with Programme leaders at some level. We would like to acknowledge the contributions made by many whether it be via email, conversation, the provision of extracts of text and/or video recordings.
