Music from Stage and Screen (as part of the Sonic Herts Festival)

This May, we are thrilled to team up with the University’s Sonic Herts Festival and celebrate music from the stage and screen.

  • William Donaldson – Oceanic Voyage
  • Michael Giacchino – Star Trek into Darkness
  • John Barry– Dances with Wolves
  • John Barry – James Bond Suite
  • John Willliams – Jurassic Park
  • John Williams – Adventures on Earth (E.T.)
  • Elmer Bernstein – The Great Escape
  • Hans Zimmer – Themes from Gladiator
  • John Williams – Harry Potter Suite
  • John Williams – Star Wars Suite
  • Klaus Badelt – Pirates of the Caribbean

Our May concert coincides with the Sonic Herts Festival – the University's annual music festival – and this year, the Orchestra is excited to perform music from the giants of the big screen!

The concert opens with Oceanic Voyage, a filmic work by William Donaldson, who is completing his studies towards a BSc (Hons) degree in 'Music Composition and Technology for Film & Games'. This piece was selected from a number of new compositions written for the dHPO by music students from the University's School of Creative Arts this year.

The orchestra will then delve into the quintessential suite of tunes from the James Bond films, followed by the the 60-year-old classic score from Elmer Bernstein for The Great Escape. Moving to the current golden era of film, the orchestra visits scores from the contemporary giants John Williams and Hans Zimmer, who both still write music for films.

Join us to enjoy these fantastic film favourites in one of our most popular concerts of the season!

The Sonic Herts Festival is the annual music festival celebrating the talent of the University’s students and staff. Run by the School of Creative Arts, the festival offers an exhilarating mix of performances ranging from classical to experimental and from acoustic to electronic.
