The Sonic Herts Festival is the University of Hertfordshire’s annual music festival celebrating the talent of the Music Department’s students and staff. Run by the School of Creative Arts, the festival offers an exhilarating mix of performances ranging from classical to experimental and from acoustic to electronic.

This year’s festival comprises of two external headline acts, three informative panel talks discussing various aspects of the music industry, live music and student showcases, hands-on interactive audio for games, a chance to see a live music video shoot in action, and a de Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra concert of music from the big screen – there’s something for everyone!

Entry is FREE and everyone is invited! All events take place in the Film, Music & Media Building on College Lane Campus.

  • Artist Performance – Almanaque, Mon 29 Apr 16:00

Almanaque present their enchanting and electrifying music which combines the infectious energy of African influences with the rich melodies of Brazilian music – not to be missed!

  • Performance – Student Solos & Ensembles, Tue 30 Apr 15:00

Students from Songwriting and Composition courses perform their own work as soloists or within ensembles. Come along and support the music of up-and-coming stars!

  • Masterclass – Paul Thomson, Thu 2 May 11:00

Co-founder of Spitfire Audio, the makers of some of the best virtual instruments & tools for musicians, Paul Thomson is a composer who has collaborated with the likes of Hans Zimmer, Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Roger Taylor (Queen), and many more!

Mon-Fri:  Free for the first 2 hours, with a £2 fee for the day thereafter.
