Microbial Identification Services

In recent years, the technology of microbial identification has progressed significantly. The commercial availability of MALDI-ToF units has created a new market for the rapid identification of yeasts and moulds. Identification is most poignant in GMP regulated industries, where determining the species of a contaminant can help identify its origin, hastening the investigation process. Using a high-powered nitrogen laser, a protein “fingerprint” can be generated and compared to a database of known “fingerprints” to provide a quicker identification than traditional methods. Working with experienced technicians at the University of Hertfordshire, results can be reported as quickly as 24 hours after sample receipt.
