Film Heritage Seminar

The Heritage Hub and Dr James Harvey ran the second event in the ‘Film Heritage’ Seminar Series on 13th May. The seminar focused on Feminist Film Archives, and we were delighted to welcome Professor Shelley Cobb (University of Southampton), Dr Giulia Rho (London South Bank University) and Dr Jessica Boyall (British Film Institute/University of Exeter) to present their research and discuss this fascinating topic.

Dr Boyall presented her paper on 'Archival Approaches to Seeing Women’s Screen Work in Gurinder Chadha’s Named Collection’, which explored the archive of the acclaimed director of films including ‘Bend It Like Beckham’, and Dr Rho spoke about ‘Missing Precedents: the unarchived, unarchivable and anarchive of women filmmakers of the North American avant-garde’, which examined the domestic collections at the houses of filmmakers Marjorie Keller and Carolee Schneemann.

These presentations were followed by a response from Professor Cobb in conversation with the panellists.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for this wonderful event.
