UH Press Title Earns Spot on Prestigious Awards Shortlist
UH Press is thrilled to learn that one of its most recent titles Broadland, by renowned landscape historian Tom Williamson and environmental specialist Alison Yardy, has been shortlisted for the prestigious East Anglian Book Awards 2025.
Published at the end of last year, Broadland offers a richly detailed and visually compelling exploration of the Broads – a unique wetland landscape spanning eastern Norfolk and north-eastern Suffolk. The book delves into the historical shaping of this iconic region, revealing how centuries of human activity, from medieval peat-cutting to modern tourism, have left indelible marks on its ecology and character.
This is the first major academic study of the area in decades, and it brings together insights from local historians, archaeologists, and natural scientists. Topics range from drainage technology and monastic foundations to vernacular architecture and conservation philosophy, making it a vital resource for both scholars and general readers.
The East Anglian Book Awards, now in their 18th year, celebrate literary excellence across the region. With categories spanning fiction, poetry, history, and more, the awards highlight works that reflect and enrich East Anglia’s cultural heritage. Winners will be announced in early 2026.
UH Press manager, Jane Housham, says: "Broadland’s inclusion on the shortlist is a testament to its scholarly depth, regional relevance, and broad appeal – a fitting recognition for a book that captures the essence of one of Britain’s most distinctive landscapes.”
