UH Arts + Culture are delighted to present a second part of the major dual exhibition to mark the 150th anniversary of the St Albans School of Art. Reflecting on the School’s profound influence on its students and staff, the exhibition showcases the contributions of generations of artists, designers and creatives in a myriad of ways.

Stretching over ten months and across two venues, this exhibition is the second part of a landmark project that explores the history and achievements of St Albans School of Art. The first part took place earlier this year at St Albans Museum + Gallery.

Exhibiting a different set of works, this second show – held in the University’s campus gallery – celebrates the legacy of the School and shines a further light onto the work by its staff and alumni who have carved out careers as artists, art therapists, designers, makers, animators, and digital creators. On display are artworksobjectsdesign conceptspublications and video works from Fine Artists, Art Therapists, Product Designers, Illustrators and recent Animation graduates, from the 1950s to the current day.

Historical archive material is also showcased – sharing the memories and stories of those who have worked, studied or visited the School over the years.

The two venues of this two-part exhibition fittingly pay homage to the evolution of the School of Art which in 1992 moved from St Albans to the neighbouring town, Hatfield, when it was amalgamated into the University’s School of Creative Arts which continues to foster creative arts students to this day.

In reflecting on the institution’s wide-ranging past, the exhibition hopes to shine light on the role that arts education plays in our society today, and offers an opportunity to consider the value of creativity in relation to our communities, histories, and identities.
