Law and criminology
Hertfordshire Law School is at the forefront of legal education. Moving away from the traditional lecture-seminar format, we have designed a more engaging approach that is unique amongst law schools.
You'll benefit from the expertise of an innovative teaching team of practising lawyers and solicitors. You’ll have access to our replica court room, enabling you to practice and hone your skills in a real-life environment. We run 13 co-curricular activities including forensic psychology, mooting and trial advocacy, giving you the chance to increase your confidence and expand your network. Plus, we give you the opportunity to solve real problems for the local community by volunteering in our pro-bono law clinic.
All of our LLB(Hons) Law degrees cover the academic stage of professional legal education and are recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and Bar Standards Board (BSB). Upon graduation from one of our courses, you’ll be eligible to progress onto the professional stage of training to become a solicitor or barrister.
Criminology is the study of the anatomy of a crime, specifically its causes, consequences and costs. Criminal justice, on the other hand, refers to established systems for dealing with crime, specifically detection of crime, detaining of criminals, and criminal prosecution and punishment. Our criminal justice and criminology course enables you to develop a detailed understanding of both.
You’ll investigate the most pressing social issues affecting today’s society. You’ll immerse yourself in our range of fascinating modules, including Terrorism and Criminology, Policing and Society, Gender and Crime, War Crimes, Drugs, Crime and Criminology and Imprisonment and Justice. Together we’ll explore potential solutions to reduce crime.
