Subject intro

Business studies

This course is ideal if you want a business degree that can lead to a wide range of careers. Business studies has been Hertfordshire Business School’s flagship undergraduate course for over 50 years, and continually evolves to meet current business and industry needs. The First Year gives you a solid foundation, while the Second and Final Years allow you to choose optional modules from a range of business disciplines. These include marketing, human resource management, finance, accounting and management. You also have the opportunity to study a language. This course is aligned with several professional bodies to enable you to work towards achieving professional body recognition.

You'll discover the vital role economics plays in shaping policy in companies, institutions and governments and gain a solid knowledge of economics and a rigorous understanding of the quantitative methods economists use in their analyses. You'll also learn how to apply economic principles to a wide variety of contemporary problems and use your quantitative skills in numerous professional situations upon graduation. You also have the opportunity to study abroad or spend a year in industry to enable you to gain valuable experience and enhance your career prospects.

Human resource management

Human resources (HR) typically focus on the management of people within an organisation, giving you the skills and knowledge for a successful career in this important area. You’ll study topics that fundamentally underpin HR management, including legal issues, economics, people resourcing, accounting and marketing. You’ll then move on to specialist modules such as Organisational Psychology, Employment Relations, Individual Employment Law, Ethics, Contemporary HRD and Performance Management.

International business

If you want a career in international business and love to travel, this four-year course is ideal for you. You’ll have the opportunity to spend one or two years studying, and possibly working, in Europe, North America, Latin America, Australia or the Asia Pacific region. This course reflects the growing need for future managers to have the business and leadership skills, language competency and cultural awareness for success in today’s global business environment.

Foreign languages

In the global business world of today, we believe it is becoming increasingly important to study a second language. Speaking a second language, as well as having a business qualification, will give you a competitive edge when job hunting. At Hertfordshire Business School, we offer a choice of five languages and most of our courses offer the possibility to study one.
