Non-supported route
Independent schools and state schools which do not have an allocation of places from the Department of Education may offer School Direct places in 2021-22 through the 'non-supported' route (i.e. the route is not supported by funding from the DfE). This is sometimes referred to as a self-funded route. This route is only offered as a salaried route whereby the student-teacher is employed by the school. The school elects to fund the training and pays the student-teacher a salary as an unqualified teacher.
