STEM explorers

This professional development programme aims to improve teachers’ confidence, knowledge and practice in science, technology, engineering, computing and mathematics. Teachers will plan and teach integrated STEM projects to help pupils gain an understanding of engineering - including through ‘coding’, moving parts of models and applying mathematical, technology and scientific skills. Pupils will solve real and relevant problems linked to the key stage 2 national curriculum.

Nb. Class boxes of kit are available for loan to support project work in school.

Outcomes

This professional development will help teachers to:

  • develop a clear intent for a broad, integrated cross-curricular STEM approach through designing a curriculum project
  • implement the project using inspiring and effective strategies
  • gather evidence of impact on children’s learning
  • be part of a network providing support, advice and ideas.

This programme will be delivered through a combination of face to face and remotely delivered sessions.

LKS2 teachers.

Dates

  • Day 1 - 6 December   (13:00 - 17:00)  at the University of Hertfordshire (UH)
  • Day 2 - 11 January (13:30 - 16:00) - remotely delivered online
  • Online support/optional session - date tbc
  • Celebration and sharing session - 21 March 2022 (13:30 - 16:00) either remotely delivered or face to face at UH

Also running on the following dates:

  • Day 1 - 28 March (13:00 - 17:00) at the University of Hertfordshire (UH)
  • Day 2 - 28 April (13:30 - 16:00) - remotely delivered online
  • Online support/optional session - date tbc
  • Celebration and project evaluation session - 11 July 2022 (13:30 - 16:00) either remotely delivered or face to face at the University of Hertfordshire.

Cost

£200 per school - this entitles two teachers to participate.
