Film & Television applicants

Applicants who are projected to meet the entry requirements described on the BA (Hons) Film & Television Production course page will be invited to submit a 60 second video telling us why you are the best person to join the University of Hertfordshire.

You will receive an email requesting that you send in your video, when it is ready, just hit reply and include the link to your video.

Preparing your 60 second video

You can present the video in any way you choose.

For example:

  • the video can be just you, talking to the camera about your passion and interest in film and television, and why you want to work in this exciting industry;
  • a film about you, produced showcasing your own passion for cinematic storytelling;
  • or it can be a fast paced, commercial style promo which truly sells yourself as an amazing moving image producer.

You can use professional cameras, or video yourself with your phone – it’s totally up to you.

No matter what style or approach you take, the most important thing is to get the message of why you should have a place on the course across to us; we’re not going to be judging you on the cinematic qualities of your footage, or what previous filmmaking experience you have, but your passion and enthusiasm are key. The industry involves long hours and a lot of hard work, so you have to really want this!

Once you have completed your video, please upload it to YouTube as an unlisted video. Please reply to the email requesting your video with the link to it in the message.

What happens next?

After we review your application and short film, a formal decision will be made through UCAS Track. Those applying directly to the University (usually part-time or International students) will be contacted by our Admissions Team.

If you have not heard within a week, please contact our Admissions Tutor, Megan Knight, at caadmissions@herts.ac.uk.
