The School of Computer Science offers a range of Masters courses suitable for many different backgrounds and career aspirations.
To qualify you should have a good honours degree from the UK or an equivalent international qualification. There are two distinct routes depending on the subject of your first degree.
Our MSc courses are available with an optional one year industry placement. The 'with placement' programmes give you additional industrial experience by applying the skills you have learned throughout your studies.
On all the three specialist courses, you study 30 credits of required taught modules, 60 credits of taught modules specific to the subject, 30 credits from the full list of modules (which optionally can also be in your specialism), and a 60 credit project on a topic in your specialist area.
On the non-specialist MSc Advanced Computer Science, you study 60 credits of required taught modules, 30 credits chosen from the core taught modules, 30 credits from the full list of modules (including those from the specialist degrees, i.e. a wide choice), and a 60 credit project in a topic based on your previous study.
If your degree is in a numerate discipline (for example science, engineering, economics) but not in Computer Science, consider our crossover course. This provides a broad based intensive coverage of the key fundamentals of computing, with an emphasis on software development. On this course you study 120 credits of required taught modules and a 60 credit project in a topic based on your study in the taught modules.
We offer two start dates per year: late September and late January.
All the courses are offered for a late September start. This is a 12 month programme that finishes the following September
All courses are normally also offered for a late January start each year. This is a 16 month programme.
There is a four month break in the summer period. For exact dates, see term and semester dates.
