International and relocating staff
We have a diverse and vibrant staff community at the University of Hertfordshire with members of staff from a wide range of areas.
Applications from international staff are always welcome but you will need to have permission to work in the UK before you start any job. Only in very exceptional circumstances will the University be able to apply for a work visa for a new member of staff. If you have further queries, please contact us.

The University of Hertfordshire has a cash point on each campus. There are also five major high street banks in Hatfield, which all offer a wide range of services.

Childcare and schooling
If you are a parent working at the University of Hertfordshire, we can offer you on-campus childcare facilities at the University Day Nursery. We accept children aged between 3 months and 5 years.
The Nursery offers:

- the highest standards of care and education
- a flexible approach to learning and development
There are other childcare providers in the area that are independent of the University. The BestOfHertfordshire website may assist you in deciding which is the most appropriate for your circumstances.
Disabled staff
The University of Hertfordshire values its staff and is committed to recruiting and retaining disabled people. Our Disability Services offer specialist advice and guidance for all staff regarding the diverse range of specialist provision available.
We have a dedicated Occupational Health department and disability services that offer a wide range of services, some of which are:
- support for the deaf and hard of hearing
- support for people with a visual impairment
- employment adjustments for people with mental health difficulties
- support for people with a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia or dyspraxia
Medical care
The University of Hertfordshire health centre
The College Lane campus has a fully equipped health centre which offers medical support for staff that have registered with them.
Campus Pharmacy
The Campus Pharmacy provides an over the counter service and advice to students and staff at the University of Hertfordshire. We are one of the first universities in the UK to open a campus pharmacy run by its own School of Pharmacy.
Pensions
There are three pension schemes available for staff at the University of Hertfordshire:
- professional staff can join the Local Government Pension Scheme
- academic staff the Teachers' Pension Scheme
- Herts Sports Village staff can join NEST
These schemes offer:
- a guaranteed pension based on salary and length of service
- opportunities to take some pension as tax-free cash
- partners' pension
- death grant of three times salary
- valuable contributions from the University
Religion
The University of Hertfordshire welcome staff from all faiths. The Key, our multi-faith and multi-cultural chaplaincy, is located on the College Lane campus and has its own Muslim prayer facilities. In addition to the University's faith provision, there are many other places in the local area that offer a place to worship depending upon your particular faith.

Where to find us
The University of Hertfordshire is located in Hatfield, just 20 minutes by train from London’s King's Cross station and within easy access of the A1(M). Our 2 sites, College Lane campus and de Havilland campus, are situated less than a kilometre apart. A network of pathways, cycle routes and handy shuttle buses connects the sites.
