Biotechnology
The Biotechnology Research Group is actively conducting research in biotechnology, microbiology and molecular biology to exploit the properties of plants, bacteria and fungi to solve problems or make useful products.
The aims of the Group, led by Dr David Naseby, are to improve the environment, improve industrial productivity, improve plant productivity and to study plant pathogens.
Active projects include:
- novel biosensors for the pharmaceutical industry
- studies on plant pathogens and potential bio control agents
- soil and rhizosphere microbial ecology and bioremediation of organic soil pollutants
- bioremediation/biodegradation of organic and inorganic pollutants (including remediation of PAHs and hydrocarbons, impact of heavy metals)
- biofuels research
- microbiological technology
