The Creative Ideas Office in the School of Creative Arts at the University of Hertfordshire in partnership with the Koppelman School of Business at Brooklyn College in New York presents

This programme provides a unique opportunity to participate in a course of study in New York focusing on all things luxury. Working with experts from industry and academia you will develop an in-depth knowledge of business and design and its implementation within a luxury context.
As the global luxury market is facing challenges through new approaches to retail, branding, manufacture and the influence of social media new strategies are now required to ensure longevity and continued success. Understand how the world of luxury works through an engaging and interactive approach to history, design, consumption, branding and technology. Work with designers, brand strategists, social media influencers to develop an understanding of the core issues that impact on the global world of luxury through innovative approaches to addressing the challenges at hand.
Course content and topics will consider global luxury brands and smaller enterprises including start-ups. Management practices from the more traditional to the highly innovative will be analysed to identify effective business strategies. Firms within the fashion, design, real estate and hospitality sectors will be a particular focus of the course. Students will be exposed a variety of areas within business including finance, management and marketing. Visits will be organized to luxury retail stores and to companies where students will have a chance to meet a wide range of professionals within their work environments, ranging from executives, programmers, designers, architects and craftspersons. Students will work throughout the course in teams to complete a project focused on one of the core themes. The final project will encompass design and social media components.
This program consists of a 10 day standalone course of study focused on the luxury industry. Offered from July 15 to July 26, 2019, the program consists of a variety of integrated courses, workshops, projects and excursions. Course content will be augmented by experiential and site-specific learning opportunities and will be taught by professors from the Koppelman School of Business at Brooklyn College, the University of Hertfordshire and by industry practitioners who are experts in their fields in the luxury domain. The program will run sequentially over two weeks, with classes meeting Monday-Friday. With a few exceptions, the program will be located at Brooklyn College’s facility at 25 Broadway in the Financial District / Wall Street, Manhattan.
Students are required to successfully complete the program to receive a Certificate of Completion in International Luxury Business and Design from both Brooklyn College and the University of Hertfordshire.
