John has over 30 years’ experience of design and making, starting as a design-engineering apprentice at Dunlop in Coventry.
Within the areas of consumer products, toys and crafts, childcare, automobile components, packaging and branding, he has worked on many products from concept through to manufacture, that have gone to market.
He is a member of the Design Research Group and contributed to a number of external conferences and journal publications looking at 3D printing within the home as a means to manufacturing products.
Through practical projects and design practice, he has been researching issues of plastic waste and the future of sustainable materials for manufacturing technologies within consumer product design, which has contributed to his teaching practice.
John is also interested in issue driven and user centred design and currently teaches on the Product and Industrial Design program across all levels and leads the first-year group embedding the keys skills of drawing, design and making within the program.
John holds a Masters’ Degree in Product Design and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy FHEA.
He has also taught in a Foundation College in Oslo and worked many times on behalf of the University in Norway.
