The Arts Therapies and Wellbeing Foundation programme provides a broad introduction to current, therapeutic use of the arts and wellbeing. It concentrates on the processes that inform arts therapies and wellbeing their application and inclusion within health care and educational settings.
Situated in the Postgraduate Centre of the School of Creative Arts, the Arts Therapies and Wellbeing Foundation programme provides excellent studio facilities and experienced arts therapy staff.
The teaching approach is aimed at students who are interested in the relationship between creativity, art making, social inclusion and therapy with art making central to the learning experience.
The course runs from Monday 17 September 2018 until Monday 25 March 2019.
The Art Therapies and Wellbeing Foundation programme comprises of three modules delivered through a variety of:
- taught practical workshops
- lectures and tutorials
- experiential groups

Successful students will be awarded a University certificate in Arts Therapies and Wellbeing Foundation. While not a qualification to practice, this provides an excellent overview of the art therapy profession for people considering training at MA level.
Students also gain transferable skills and an enhanced understanding of the potential of the arts as a means of social inclusion and wellbeing.
The Arts Therapies and Wellbeing Foundation programme comprises of three modules delivered through a variety of taught, lectures, practical workshops and experiential groups.
Students submit three short written pieces of work and are expected to spend 150 hours in self-directed study. Tutorial support is provided.
In Semester B Students take part in an experiential group which helps them to reach a deeper awareness of themselves and the expressive arts. The aim is to appreciate the potential of creativity and imagination within a wellbeing context.

Fees & funding
- £595 per 15 credits for the 2018/2019 academic year
