This course is suspended for 2019 entry.

This course is based around sports coaching, sport and fitness development and sport-related management. If you're hoping to work in the sports and leisure industry, you'll benefit from its strong emphasis on practical, work-based learning.

You'll take coaching modules at the outstanding Hertfordshire Sports Village on the de Havilland Campus at the University of Hertfordshire and have the opportunity to gain additional coaching awards.

Progression routes

All progression routes outlined below are currently valid; however available progression will be updated on an annual basis in accordance with changes in UH provision.

Progression to BSc (Hons) Sports Studies at UH requires an average classification grade tariff of 60% or more from the second year of study only, (i.e. all Level 5 modules) and a pass in Research Skills for Sports Studies (pre-requisite for BSc (Hons) Final Year Project, unless studying for a Pass degree only (non-honours route).

Please note that this course will not be running at West Herts College for 2018 entry.

Careers

You could choose to progress to a BSc(Hons) Sports Studies degree at the university, or start a career in sports coaching, sports development, health and fitness development or sports management.

 

Teaching methods

Coaching units will be delivered at the outstanding Hertfordshire Sports Village on the de Havilland Campus at the University of Hertfordshire. The course is aimed at students who wish to work in the sports and leisure industry. There will also be a strong emphasis on work-based learning.

    Entry requirements

    48 UCAS points 

    IB - 48 points with a minimum of 1 HL subject at grade 4 or above (with the remaining points to come from a combination of HL, SL and Core).

    GCSE Maths and English Language at grade 4 or above.

    The University also accepts a number of other equivalent qualifications including BTEC, IB and Access courses – to find out more about the requirements for these and  other equivalent qualifications please visit UCAS.

    Applications from candidates without UCAS points will be assessed by the Admissions Tutor on an individual basis.  Applications will be welcome from those working in relevant (sport, fitness or leisure) employment.
