This short course will cover: the nature and characteristics of groundwater and surface water resources; water resource planning and management within the context of overall catchment planning; water resources policy, the legal framework governing water resources; and the threats to water resources and the measures taken to protect them. There course will include lectures, workshops and some fieldwork. Participants will need warm and waterproof clothing and boots for the fieldwork on Saturday.
The aims of the short course are to enable participants to:
- Acquire knowledge of the types of water resources
- Balance user and environmental needs through an understanding of water resources
- Understand sustainable management of water resource
Participants may include those new to working in the field of water resources, or those wishing to change to a career in water. They should have some understanding of the physical environment at undergraduate degree level.
