Staff are a prime resource for any organisation and often a major proportion of the organisation's expenditure in delivery of its objectives. As a manager, you are judged on the success of your team. This in turn depends on how you manage the performance of your team members and help with the continued development of their skills and expertise.

Participants will discuss best practice in performance management and consider how best to support and develop their people to meet current and future organisational objectives.

What is ‘performance management’?
What has worked for you in the past, what has been less effective, and what lessons can be learned?

Links to organisational strategy
Linking understanding of organisational strategy and objectives to job roles and service delivery targets. Setting clear standards and expectations from the beginning.

Tools and techniques
The theory and practice of supporting the staff who deliver your service, both individually and as teams; understanding and applying your organisation’s policies and procedures; considering employee motivation.

Confidence and skills
Using coaching, influencing, delegation and feedback skills when discussing past and future performance.

Reflection and personal development
How will you apply this learning? Are there related learning opportunities you would benefit from? What are your next steps?

Who should attend

This course is for managers or team leaders at all levels to learn the skills of effective performance management, or refresh their  skills in supporting and managing the performance of their service through their people.

Teaching methods

The course will take place in a live learning online format via Zoom.  Full details of how to access the course will be sent after booking. 

The course is taught by Mohammed Usman.

Mohammed Usman is a Visiting Lecturer at Hertfordshire Business School. He is a consultant, mentor and management trainer specialising in business strategy, business and project planning, leadership and marketing.  He specialises in developing and implementing strategy business plans, branding and marketing strategies, performance management and integrated marketing communication plans.

Mohammed has experience in working with both global multinationals and small/medium enterprises, start-ups and the distribution industry.  His sector experience includes automotive, healthcare, technology and engineering.

He is an Accredited Associate of the Institute for Independent Business (IIB), Member of the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (MIoEE) and a Registered Mentor with Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative (SFEDI).
