Why choose this course?
Our 3 week virtual course will give you a practical introduction to the world or origami. The art has ancient traditions and current applications. Starting from ceremonial folds from Japan, the craft developed in the East. Engineers are now finding applications in folding structures and mechanisms and designers are finding inspiration from folded structures and their application in products and fashion.
As the course develops you will learn the history of the craft as well as basic techniques that will enable you to make fascinating and beautiful models from paper.
- Week 1 – History and background of the art of Origami and making a collection of traditional models
- Week 2 – Applications of Origami and making a collection of models with folding mechanisms
- Week 3 – Fun Origami Animals
By the end of the course you will have a good understanding of the basics of the craft.

This course runs on a Saturday morning from 10:00 to 12:00 on the following dates:

- 100 sheets of 15cm square paper
The models in the course will be made from squares, either folded from A4 printer paper, or if you wanted to buy origami paper in advance you can get it here; https://colortreelimited.co.uk/
All our online courses are taught remotely using Microsoft Teams. You will need a pc or mac laptop. It is advisable that your work area is close enough to your pc/mac to enable you to gain the most out of the course. You will be given full instructions after you enrol on how to log on to the course.
Bookings for all Creative Arts Short Courses will be reviewed 2 weeks before the start date of each course. This will allow the Short Course team to determine whether a course has met the minimum number of students needed for the class to run. If a class has failed to recruit, the class will be re-scheduled and applicants will be informed and where relevant offered an alternative class.
We therefore encourage you to book early before the deadline to avoid disappointment.
Bookings for all short courses are to be made online through the universities online booking system before a course commences. Students are therefore not permitted to enrol or attend a class on the day the course starts without prior arrangement.
