Why choose this course?
This course is aimed at school and academy leaders and teachers and is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and implement good practice in educational assessment for both primary and secondary schools.
This informative and interactive course encourages debate, peer-based learning and enlightenment, using practices and methods, case studies and approaches from the world of assessment. The course is in three sections:
- Foundations of assessment: In this interactive session you will look at the purposes of assessments. This will include clarifying the meaning of ‘assessment’, listing and describing some of the main purposes and types of assessment and identifying the purposes of assessment in your school.
- Principles of assessment: It is vital with any assessment that the assessment fits the purpose. You will explore the key principles of assessment in this session and will apply those principles to construct tasks and tests in your own context.
- Outcomes of assessment: The focus of this session is making use of what we learn from assessments. This will include relating marking and feedback to assessment and reviewing the way the whole assessment system in your school fits together and how assessment information in your school is communicated to others.
