Design Your Own Website for Beginners - Online course
About the course
Whether you want to design websites for fun, as a hobby, as a way of building a new career, or as part of your existing job, this 10-week course provides a broad, supportive, fun, friendly and reasonably fast-paced environment. The course includes tutor led teaching, guidance and feedback (both group and individual), open discussions, self-paced activities, group based challenges and handouts which you can take away.
In addition to embarking on learning the principles and practices of website design, development and publishing, you will also have the opportunity to design and build your own site using a range of industry standard tools and systems. For those of you who would like to improve your technical knowledge we will also be dipping into wider topics such as, ‘what the Internet and World-Wide-Web is’, ‘how search engines work’, ‘what search engine optimisation is and why it is important’ and ‘how domain names work’, etc.
The course will cover the following topics:
- The anatomy of web pages.
- The tools of the trade.
- Design principles.
- HTML & CSS.
- Building content.
- Publishing and accessing sites.
- Designing your site.
- Building your site.
- Testing your site.
- Site review & expanding your new skills
This course runs on a Wednesday from 19:00 to 21:30 on the following dates:

All our online courses are taught remotely using Zoom. The classes will be delivered live giving all students the opportunity to fully engage in the lessons with the tutor and other students.
You will need a pc or mac laptop.
Log in details to join the course online will be provided after enrolment.
Bookings for all Creative Arts Short Courses will be reviewed 2 weeks before the start date of each course. This will allow the Short Course team to determine whether a course has met the minimum number of students needed for the class to run. If a class has failed to recruit, the class will be re-scheduled and applicants will be informed and where relevant offered an alternative class.
We, therefore, encourage you to book early before the deadline to avoid disappointment.
Bookings for all short courses are to be made online through the universities online booking system before a course commences. Students are therefore not permitted to enrol or attend a class on the day the course starts without prior arrangement.
