Computer Aided Design (CAD) with 3D Printing

During this course you will learn about and come to understand the fundamentals of how a CAD system works, enabling you to produce 3D parts and assemblies, and to produce drawings, using the industry standard software Autodesk Inventor. With these 3D parts we will introduce you to the world of 3D printing. The key to it is being able to model the parts so you can print them.

After an initial introduction to the software, the course will cover:

• Sketching in 2D
• Creating 3D features
• Producing drawings
• Creating assemblies
• Types of 3D printers
• Preparing 3D models for printing
• Printing 3D parts

With these skills in place, you will be equipped to make your own models and assemblies, which could be used for 3D printing and 2D drawings, images and/or animations for visualisations or demonstrations. The software is highly flexible, allowing you to develop your skills in a number of directions depending on your creative interests. Once you can make 3D models, all sorts of other uses will become apparent, including 3D printing and so our course will empower you to explore further. You will be equipped to transfer these fundamental skills to other CAD software applications.

By the end of the course, you will have a solid understanding of CAD and be able to create 3D parts and assemble, prepare, and print the pieces out. Other software may be demonstrated but you will learn CAD using the software Autodesk Inventor.

Prerequisites

To be able to maintain the pace of this course you should:

• Have PC skills that are above a basic level
• Have some experience using programs such as Word or Photoshop.
• Be expected to navigate files and folders on a computer and understand how to use Googles Search Engine

Booking deadlines

Bookings for all Creative Arts Short Courses will be reviewed two weeks before the start date of each course. This will allow the Short Course team to determine whether a course has met the minimum number of students needed for the class to run. If a class has failed to recruit, the class will be re-scheduled and you will be informed. Where relevant you will be offered an alternative class. If the course has met minimum numbers, bookings will stay open to the course start date or until it has met maximum numbers.

We encourage you to book early before the deadline to avoid disappointment.

Bookings for all short courses need to be made online through our online booking system, before a course commences. You cannot enroll or attend a class on the day the course starts, without prior arrangement.

Cancellations

If for any reason you change your mind about joining us after you have accepted the offer, you have a legal right to cancel your contract to study with us within 14 days.
