The CIM Diploma is for marketing managers and marketers working in operational and supervisory roles, who are looking to improve their strategic ability and management skills and advance their careers. 

The Diploma consists of three modules:

Marketing & Digital Strategy (mandatory) - starts January 2021
This module will enable you to take both a traditional and digital strategic approach to marketing planning, integrating digital strategy, models, frameworks and techniques throughout to achieve competitive advantage.

Innovation in Marketing (mandatory) - starts May 2020
This module enables you to take a visionary approach and embed innovation to help your organisation deal with the challenges of a fast-moving marketplace. You will be able to understand the relationship between marketing and innovation and recognise the key factors in building and nurturing innovation within the marketing function. You will also be able to use internal and external marketing in supporting a specific innovation.

The Digital Customer Experience (elective) - starts September 2020
Customer behaviour has dramatically changed with the digital revolution. This module provides you with insights into the digital customer experience and highlights ways to adapt to this changing market, allowing you to fulfil customers’ strategic needs. It will provide the knowledge and skills to select appropriate channels to market to meet objectives. It will also help to ensure you provide the desired customer experience, by understanding the customer's journey while complying with relevant legislation and regulation.

Why choose this course?

A CIM qualification at Level 6 develops your strategic marketing skills enabling you to progress your marketing career and perform professionally at a management level.  Successful completion of the CIM Diploma will establish the knowledge, skills and understanding to be able to carry out an active and essential professional marketing role within the workplace. 

Most students start in January, but you may join the course at any unit start point, depending on your qualifications and experience.  For students starting with Module 1, the course will take approximately 12 months to complete;  for those starting later it will take longer as there is no teaching over the summer. 

You can set your own pace of study to tailor the course around your other commitments. 

Entry requirements...

Do you qualify? 

You’ll need to have a minimum of two years’ experience working in the industry at an operational level or a relevant Level 4 qualification to study the Diploma in Professional Marketing.

If English is not your first language, you will also need to provide evidence of achieving one of the following English Language qualifications within the last two years: IELTS Academic Module with overall score of 6.5 (each component pass mark must be 6.0 or above) or Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English grade B or above. CIM will consider other equivalent alternatives.

Course fees

£675 per module

University of Hertfordshire alumni, staff and students receive a 20% discount.

CIM membership and examination/assessment fees are additional and are payable directly to The Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Teaching methods

The course is taught via a series of full-day workshops, supported by distance learning and access to the University's learning resources.  There are three workshops per module, held on campus on Saturdays.

We anticipate that the course will go ahead in the usual format of on-campus teaching workshops from January 2021.  However, if face-to-face teaching is not an option at that point, we will utilise online/digital tuition, and full support will be provided.
