A CIM qualification at Level 4 is the 'go-to' for marketing executives (or equivalent) who have had experience in the industry and are looking to advance their career. The Certificate builds on your tactical marketing skills enabling you to move forward in your career and perform professionally at an operational level within your marketing department.

The course consists of three modules.  A pass in all three is required to complete the Certificate. 

Module 1:  Applied Marketing - Starts September 2020

In this module, you will learn about the role of marketing in the organisation and the key concepts that underpin the activities of the marketer. You will explore the marketing environment, customer behaviour in the digital age, market research and the marketing planning process. This will include the marketing mix and a tactical planning framework to aid marketing effectiveness.

Module 2: Planning Campaigns - Starts January 2021

This module gives you the knowledge and skills to plan and implement successful campaigns that deliver real results for an organisation. You will learn the campaign planning process including how to analyse an organisation’s current position. You will also learn how to set campaign objectives, implement a campaign then measure and evaluate its success to aid continuous improvement in the fast-changing world of marketing.

Module 3: Digital Marketing Techniques - Starts April 2021

This module focuses on the importance of the ever-evolving, dynamic digital landscape. You will develop skills to improve digital marketing performance and explore the challenges and opportunities within the digital environment. You will also use a range of tools to plan how to enhance an organisation’s effectiveness in the digital age.

Entry requirements...

Are you an aspiring professional marketer who wishes to gain knowledge and skills to succeed and progress within a career in marketing?  You’ll need to have a minimum of one year’s experience in the industry or a relevant level 3 qualification to study the Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing.

If English is not your first language, you will also need to provide evidence of achieving one of the following English Language qualifications within the last two years: IELTS Academic Module with overall score of 6.5 (each component pass mark must be 6.0 or above) or Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English grade B or above. CIM will consider other equivalent alternatives.

Typical profiles of people who might take this qualification could include: Marketing assistants or co-ordinators with approximately one year in a marketing role.   

Most students start in September, but you may join the course at any unit start point, depending on your qualifications and experience.  For students starting with Module 1, the course will take approximately nine months to complete; for those starting later it will take longer as there is no teaching over the summer. 

You can set your own pace of study to tailor the course around your other commitments. 

Course fees

£640 per module

University of Hertfordshire alumni, staff and students receive a 20% discount.

Please note: Course fees include tuition and learning materials plus access to the University's learning resouces. 

CIM membership and examination/assessment fees are additional and are payable directly to The Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Teaching methods

The course is taught via a series of weekly evening classes, supported by distance learning.  The course is currently taught on Wednesdays between 19.00-21.30 (Tuesdays for Module 3).

We anticipate that the course will go ahead in the usual format from September.  However, if face-to-face teaching is not an option at that point, we will utilise online/digital tuition, and full support will be provided.
