Entry Requirements

You should be a qualified health care professional currently working in an appropriate area of practice.   

Normally students may enter Level 7 study having completed a qualification at Level 6, which is equivalent to an undergraduate degree.

This module forms part of a broader CPD framework which can lead to a postgraduate award or it can be taken as a standalone module for CPD.

Course Overview

This module is aimed at all registered and practicing nurses or midwives, and allied health and social care professionals.

The module involves the critical examination and application of decision making theories and processes to health care practice, including: clinical reasoning models; ethics; policy and legal frameworks; values based decision making; patient and public consultation and inter-professional working.

Learning outcomes

The aims of the module are to enable you to critically analyse and evaluate the process of decision making and problem solving in relation to your own practice and to demonstrate a sound understanding of theoretical models of clinical decision making and problem solving and how they apply to complex patient, service user and carer needs.

The assessment for this module will be:
