About the course

How do you Graphic Design?

This short course is designed for you to develop your design vocabulary, gain working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite packages including when, why and how to use them, provide insights into the process of developing ideas, solve design problems, motivate and inspire you towards Higher Education and create responsive design assets for digital and social media.

Course outline

Day One - Illustrator – Logos and Icons (create shapes and lines)

The first day covers the creation of vector artwork and exploring logo and icon design by creating shapes, tracing artwork, colouring and working with type.

The second day of the course covers creating image assets for backgrounds. Exploring how to enhance photography, how to create textures, alter colours and resize images.

Day Three - InDesign – Designing posters (creating multiple pages and layouts)

The third day covers InDesign essentials such as setting up your file in the correct dimensions, and includes layout techniques, and how to use appropriate typography and colour.

Day Four - Connecting Skills

The fourth day provides the opportunity to work on a brief (brief will be provided) in more detail. You will get to see how much you have learned and focus more on how you are using the tools to be creative. All artwork is then incorporated from the previous days into InDesign to create a set of posters and social media assets. (Printing and staple binding your poster set into a booklet).

The fifth day you will work on a social media design using the assets you created. You will also design additional assets for your social media pages. You will decide the look and feel of your social media collection and the kind of organisation you would like to attract and approach i.e. design studio consultancy, magazine, tv, radio, newspaper etc. with your designs.
