MSc Business and Organisational Strategy
About the course
The Masters of Business and Organisational Strategy (MBOS), offered both to self-funded learners and also on the Senior Leader Master’s Degree Apprenticeship, is the perfect developmental tool for emerging leaders and middle management level staff who are earlier in their career and looking to advance.
The curriculum leads to the award of MSc Business and Organisational Strategy, which works in tandem with key elements of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and students have an option to take the CMI Level 7 Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership (QCF). Completion of all elements of the programme gives access to the exemption route to CMI Chartered Manager Status.
This programme is delivered within the Senior Leader apprenticeship standard.
Why choose this course?
The course provides an opportunity for enhancing awareness of self and impact on others – with a view to enhancing the contribution to the teams we work with, the organisations we work in, and the communities we contribute to.
With a strong practical orientation to the curriculum, the programme provides a strategic overview of organisational contexts designed to enable students to enhance their current leadership capacity whilst developing for the future.
There is an integrated work-based project in the final year where students participate in a substantial piece of independent research that has the potential to contribute significantly to the operation of their organisation.
What will I study?
We are constantly developing and refining our class room techniques. Class sizes are typically between 20-30 students which allows us to use a wide range of teaching and learning methods. These range from experiential learning techniques where delivery of content responds to student’s experience and class discussion
In other subjects, such as project management or performance management there is an emphasis on learning particular techniques or concepts and applying these to case studies. Whatever the topic, all our modules are delivered in an interactive way and based on contemporary approaches to teaching and learning as promoted by the Higher Education Academy.
In addition to group based learning in the classroom our students receive detailed one-to-one supervision during their individual research project. An academic member of staff supports the student in the development of research questions, the development of appropriate data collection and data analysis tools and the identification of relevant literature on the chosen topic.
On some key modules learners have the opportunity to learn alongside professionals on the ‘parallel’ programme – MSc Public Service Management. This allows for greater diversity of ideas, strengthening of professional networks and the opportunity to reflect on those features of organisational life that are distinctive to an organisation or shared across others.
Learners have the opportunity to acquire an extended diploma from the CMI. Learners also have the opportunity to gain Chartered Manager member status from CMI subject to successful completion.
This programme is suited to emerging leaders and middle management level staff who are earlier in their career and looking to advance.
