Why choose this course?

This course is ideal for those who want to find out about traditional printmaking methods and techniques, through both tuition and experimentation. With guidance throughout the courses you will be able to try different printmaking methods. By working in a group you can observe and discuss what other people are doing to broaden your knowledge and offer inspiration for ideas. With practical, hands on experience some of the aspects you will cover include:

  • Direct methods of printmaking such as monotype and stencilling
  • Relief printing such as linocut
  • Etching – different types such as line, aquatint and photo
  • Silkscreen
  • The use of our various types of presses, relief, intaglio and planographic methods of ink application

If you have not attended a printmaking course here at the university before, you will follow the weekly plan to sample all of the above techniques. If you have attended a printmaking course at UH, you will have the opportunity to focus on and develop one or two methods for your own projects.

By the end of the course you will have an understanding of print processes and a portfolio of work.
