About the course

This 6 week short course is a beginners’ guide for people who want to be able to edit their own films and videos. It is also a grounding for people who want to make a start on a professional career in filmmaking and video editing.

Throughout the course you will get hands-on experience in using the skills you learn and you will be able to apply this knowledge to your own video by the final session. This course is ideal for those who want to learn through online practical workshops, with industry tips and one-to-one tutor support.

What will I study?

Learner hours: 15

You will learn the essentials of video editing and how to navigate the many tools offered by industry-standard editing software, Adobe Premiere Pro. In the class you will work through from the very start of basic editing projects all the way through to final delivery for various platforms.

Course summary

You will be taught essential skills such as:

  • Understanding file formats and different video codecs
  • Media management and ingesting footage
  • Video editing tools and techniques
  • Understanding the art of editing
  • Adding effects and transitions
  • Colour grading
  • Sound mastering
  • Adding credits
  • Key-framing and timelines
  • Exporting

By the end of the course, you will understand how to edit video, audio and other media content and add effects and transitions to your film. Finally, you will learn how to export your finished video to a web, TV or mobile format, knowing the difference between the formats and how to choose the right one for the job.

Our 6 week After Effects (Online) course perfectly compliments our ‘Premiere Pro’ course for creating and adding motion graphics and visual effects to your videos.

Where will I study?

Mode of delivery: Online

All our online courses are taught remotely using Zoom. The tutor will be delivering the class live and importantly providing feedback and answer any questions you may have during the lesson. You will need a pc or mac laptop. You will be given full instructions after you enrol on how to log on to Zoom so you can attend the course.

Materials

For this course you will need to purchase the trial version of Adobe Premiere Pro and we recommend doing this no earlier than three days before the course starts, for your home PC or Mac.

Prerequisites

To be able to maintain the pace of this course you should:

  • Have PC skills that are above a basic level
  • Have some experience using programs such as Word or Photoshop.
  • Be expected to navigate files and folders on a computer and understand how to use Googles Search Engine

Booking deadlines

Bookings for all Creative Arts Short Courses will be reviewed two weeks before the start date of each course. This will allow the Short Course team to determine whether a course has met the minimum number of students needed for the class to run. If a class has failed to recruit, the class will be re-scheduled and you will be informed. Where relevant you will be offered an alternative class. If the course has met minimum numbers, bookings will stay open to the course start date or until it has met maximum numbers.

We encourage you to book early before the deadline to avoid disappointment.

Bookings for all short courses need to be made online through our online booking system, before a course commences. You cannot enroll or attend a class on the day the course starts.

Cancellations

If for any reason you change your mind about joining us after you have accepted the offer, you have a legal right to cancel your contract to study with us within 14 days. This cancellation period therefore ends at the end of 14 days after the day on which you accepted our offer. Find further details of our cancellation terms here.
