This six-week course is a beginners’ guide for people who want to be able to make and edit their own films. It is also a grounding for people who want to make a start on a professional career in film-making and editing.
Using industry-standard editing software, you will learn the essentials of film-editing and how to navigate Premiere Pro’s menu and tools. In the class you will work on a basic project covering everything from importing video through editing, adding a soundtrack, creating a title sequence and exporting the final result to the best file format for the purpose.
You will be taken through essential steps such as:
- Film sequences
- Media management
- Understanding formats and importing video
- Video editing tools and techniques
- Adding effects and transitions
- Adding opening and end credits
- Key-framing and timelines
- Exporting finished video
By the end of the course, you will understand how to edit video, audio and other media content and add effects and transitions to your film. Finally, you will learn how to export your finished video to a web, TV, DVD or mobile format, knowing the difference between the formats and how to choose the right one for the job.
Throughout the course you will get hands-on experience in using the skills you learn and you will be able to apply this knowledge to your own video by the final session. This course is ideal for those who want to learn through practical workshops, with industry tips and one-to-one tutor support.

This will allow the Short Course team to determine whether a course has met the minimum number of students needed for the class to run. If a class has failed to recruit, the class will be re-scheduled and applicants will be informed and where relevant offered an alternative class.
We, therefore, encourage you to book early before the deadline to avoid disappointment.
Bookings for all short courses are to be made online through the universities online booking system before a course commences. Students are therefore not permitted to enrol or attend a class on the day the course starts without prior arrangement.
