Mike was a superb administrator, very precise in what he did. I think it came from being a proof reader at some time in his career. I remember going to Singapore with Mike and Jan Bowyer, he disappeared at Heathrow but came back saying he had gt us upgraded to business class. Discovered that he also worked in the travel industry and knew how to do things!

I had the absolute pleasure of working alongside Mike in the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences over a number of years. Mike brought fun, humour and laughter to the Faculty. He genuinely cared about everyone- he knew us all so well and always made a point of getting to know us and our families himself being a real family man. His professionalism and attention to detail was second to none - he never missed a comma, full stop or split infinitive or the chance to tidy up our reports before sending them to a wider audience. I used to laugh with Mike often saying gosh I can’t remember writing that so succinctly - he used to wink and say you didn’t that was me. I learnt so much from Mike and especially the difference between rational and rationale!!!! I remember fondly how every email started with a “ good morning” and never failed to end without his trademark “ keep smiling”. Mike rest in peace and God bless Jo xxx
