Forest Gate Community School

Shuabur Rahman, Assistant Headteacher, speaks about his experience of Excellence in Assessment (schools) accreditation. Forest Gate Community School, a mixed comprehensive secondary in the London Borough of Newham, have recently been awarded the accreditation:

'One of the really positive aspects of the process was that it encouraged dialogue with other members of staff about assessment in their area. This helped us evidence and build on good practice across the school. Achieving the Excellence in Assessment status has given us confidence in our own practice and we feel we can now advise other schools in the MAT, who take us more seriously as a result of the accreditation.

'The accreditation process was a really positive experience. With the disappearance of local authorities, schools are increasingly left to their own devices and there is a real need for validation and advice on the changes happening in assessment in education currently. This is a really good way to verify your practice.'

Achieving the Excellence in Assessment status has given us confidence in our own practice and we feel we can now advise other schools in the MAT, who take us more seriously as a result of the accreditation.
