Engineering

The University offers 7 engineering apprenticeship standards, tailored to different industry specialisms to bring apprenticeships to life. The School of Engineering and Technology has an international reputation for developing technically skilled, commercially aware graduates. The School has worked with employers to devise 3 delivery options for each programme, these include: a 4 year day release or day and block release option, or a 6 year day release option.

Aerospace Engineer

Aerospace Engineers will work primarily within a specific Engineering discipline, such as Airframe, Design and Stress, Systems Integration, Support Engineering, Quality or Advanced Manufacturing/Manufacturing Engineering, focusing on all aspects related to the full lifecycle of systems and products.

This flexible course will develop the learner’s mechanical engineering expertise and professional skills. Your employees can choose from one of three distinctive routes: Aerospace Engineering, which explores aerodynamics and aircraft structural design; Aerospace Engineering with Space Technology, focusing on rocket and satellite technology and space vehicle design; and Aerospace Systems Engineering, looking at how aircraft systems are integrated into aircraft design.

Automotive Engineer

Automotive Engineers are tasked with innovated vehicle design, taking into account consumer demands and performance targets set by the industry with regard to road safety and sustainability issues.

Designed to develop your employees' mechanical engineering expertise and professional skills, this course offers two distinctive routes: Automotive Engineering, which focuses on vehicle design and manufacturing methods and strategies, or Automotive Engineering with Motorsport, which explores how to enhance high-performance vehicles, particularly through aerodynamics and engine design.

Civil Engineer

Civil Engineers provide technical and management input to develop design solutions for complex civil engineering problems.

This course gives students in-depth knowledge and practical skills by introducing them to an innovative curriculum that integrates topics such as simulation, fire safety engineering, building information modelling, computational methods and smart infrastructure.

Electronics Engineer

Electronic Engineers design and develop electronic circuits, devices and systems for a range of industries.

Employees undertaking this course will develop the latest expertise in the fields such as digital signal processing, microelectronic & VLSI design practice, robotics and neural networks, power systems applications and implementation, and advanced power conversion and control application trends.

Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Engineers are involved in producing innovative designs, using the latest materials and Computer Aided Engineering systems to meet ever-increasing expectations in 21st century living.

This course will develop the learner’s mechanical engineering expertise and professional skills across a broad curriculum with modules including thermofluid mechanics & heat transfer, mechanical engineering design and manufacturing strategy.

Mechatronics Engineer

Mechatronics Engineers will combine precision mechanics, electronics, controls, and computer engineering, through a process of integrated design.

The mechatronics apprenticeship programme is a flexible course offering your employees two distinctive routes: Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, or Electronic Engineering and Mechatronics. Modules cover a range of topics including mechatronic design, integrated engineering system design and project management.

Manufacturing Engineer

Manufacturing Engineers primarily support the activities involved in bringing design programmes into manufacture. This role is pivotal to the launch, planning and smooth delivery of exciting new products or product refresh programmes.

During this dynamic course apprentices will develop their manufacturing engineering expertise and learn to apply their understanding to the analysis and design of technical solutions in manufacturing and services. Apprentices will explore a range of topics including science, mathematics, design and computer-based methods, while gaining in-depth knowledge of the wider environmental, business and engineering issues they face in the workplace.
