Our brand story

What is a brand narrative?

Each brand has its own narrative, a position which offers the most motivating vision for its audiences. This story is the common theme or 'golden thread' that joins up all its communications.

The narrative doesn’t always have to be used in full – you can use parts of it for specific purposes – but by having a single anchor for audiences across the institution, we can all be joined up and communicate with greater impact and less risk.

The University of Hertfordshire: Powering the potential of students, staff and business

The University of Hertfordshire brings the transformational impact of higher education to all.

With its heritage in Britain’s pioneering aeronautical industry, the University has been an innovative force in education since the early 1950s. Today, it hosts a thriving community of more than 30,000 students who study 550 degree options at a vibrant, inclusive, campus-based institution. Alongside high quality teaching, the University’s strong relationships with industry and award-winning careers services ensure students gain the knowledge and skills they need to match their ambition and succeed.

Academics are experts in their field, delivering research which is having a meaningful social and environmental impact in the UK and across the globe. From safe guarding older people's food security and public health, to using a pioneering laser facility to deliver critical insights into climate, staff drive forward cutting-edge research.

The University of Hertfordshire has been an anchor institution for the regional economy and community since its beginning. Through its all-campus incubator ethos and status as an Enterprise Zone, the University gives hundreds of local businesses the support and facilities they need to learn and grow each year.

Globally, the University partners with institutions in countries all over the world, as well as welcoming over 10,000 international students from over 140 countries to its campus in the UK. Home students are also encouraged to take the opportunity to experience studying abroad at one of over 170 universities worldwide.

At the University of Hertfordshire students, staff and businesses consistently reach their full potential. They continue to think bigger, stand out and positively impact local, national and international communities.

What is a boilerplate?

A boilerplate is a short paragraph which summarises an organisation for marketing materials. We are a big institution and our activities, aside from teaching students, are varied and vast. Using a boilerplate will help you to capture the most key information about Herts, briefly and succinctly.

You might be writing a letter, an email, a presentation or some media or promotional materials; the boilerplate can be used for all of these.
