Choose your Humanities subject areas
We have designed our humanities programme to help you explore new areas, broaden your horizons and gain a mix of skills which will be highly valued by future employers.
In your First Year at the University of Hertfordshire you can take up to four subjects from the lists below. At least one must be from subject list A.
In your Second and Final Years, you can choose to specialise in a single subject from list A, or continue studying a combination of subjects.

On the humanities programme you may choose to study up to three subjects from list B alongside your major subject (English Language & Communication, English Literature, History or Philosophy).
This will give you a degree title like, for example, BA (Hons) History with Journalism and Spanish.
You may also combine any of the following subjects with the four majors. In these cases from your second year, each subject will make up half of your degree.
This would result in a subject title such as BA (Hons) Creative Writing and English Literature.
If you choose our Mass Communications programme you will combine Media Cultures with a choice of three other subjects in your first year. Subjects available within this programme are:
