What the data says about us

The University of Hertfordshire has a long-standing history of Initial Teacher Education. We are a leading regional provider and are recognised by the DfE to be among the top 25% of ITE providers. We have been a consistently good provider (Ofsted 2005/6, 2010/11, 2013/14) and are now one of the largest regional providers of School Direct provision in Hertfordshire.

We are consistently in line or above sector for students successfully completing their programme of study leading to Qualified Teacher Status.

The current Ofsted Inspection Data Summary Report (IDSR) confirms that the University of Hertfordshire is in the top 20% of ITE providers for employability in state-funded education. Many of our student teachers secure employment in partnership schools and go on to mentor new students.

Undergraduate primary ITE provision at the University of Herfordshire is recognised as the top university provider for overall satisfaction with a figure of 95.1% in the National Student Survey 19/20.

Our overarching vision for ITE, which has been developed by the partnership, is underpinned by the Herts Widening Access and Success heritage and our regional commitment to working with schools in areas with challenging socio-economic circumstances and those judged requires improvement. Our partnership trains high-quality teachers with the character and skill to make a significant and sustained contribution to the profession: agency; professional voice; resilience; social justice.
