We asked Tomi...

What is your current role and how did you get to this point in your career?

I am currently working as a communications officer at Elevation Networks. I recently worked at the same company as an NCS Programme Intern. I got the job as an intern as I used to be an NCS Team Leader last year and wanted to come back to EN but working more behind the scenes for their NCS programme.

How did your studies at the University of Hertfordshire help shape your career?

The university gave me opportunities to learn how to speak with the public whilst being a student ambassador. This helped me when I was a team leader and speaking to my group of 15 teenagers as I lead them with their daily activities.

What made you decide to study at this University?

I looked at the course information online whilst applying to UCAS online and saw that it was coursework based which works well for me as exams made me nervous. Also, Hertfordshire isn't too far from home but it wasn't around the corner so the location was perfect.

What was the best or most useful thing about your course?

My coursemates and the loan store room which provided equipment free for us to use for the duration of our course.

What is your stand-out memory from your time at the University?

Having a meeting with the Vice Chancellor and talking to him about the importance of the University's social media accounts.

Are you still in contact with friends you met at the University of Hertfordshire?

Yes. These are my friends for life!

What advice would you give your younger self if you were starting at the University tomorrow?

Don't be scared because you're going on your own. Don't take your first year so seriously. If you have the time to travel, please go and do it! Go and study abroad in Australia like you planned to!

Do you have any advice for University of Hertfordshire graduates who are considering a career in your industry?

Be open to criticism and other people's creative ideas. Not everyone sees your vision and that's okay as there's always room for improvement.

What are your future career plans/ ambitions?

To continue in the job role that I am. Hopefully, move into social media and advertisement. Move overseas to America or Australia. Get married, have a family. Overall, I’m excited about my future!
