Lulu Davis

  • Current role: Owner of Incendia Music
  • Year of graduation: 2013
  • Degree course: Music and Entertainment Industry Management

I loved the fact that the course was taught by lecturers who were active within the music industry and the Lulu DavisUniversity itself had a great campus and was close enough to London so that I could commute to gigs.

We asked Lulu...

What is your current role and how did you get to this point in your career?

I am the founder of Incendia Music. I commenced my business on a freelance basis in my second year of University, and it has grown organically ever since. We are now a team of three, have an office and work with international clients across the rock and heavy metal spectrum.

How did your studies at the University of Hertfordshire help shape your career?

Studying a degree in Music and Entertainment Industry Management provided the educational knowledge I needed to create a foundation for a career in the music business. By being taught various modules that would later become paramount to my company's success; having the knowledge of marketing, publishing, law for instance, has definitely helped me navigate my way through a challenging industry.

What made you decide to study at this University?

I loved the fact that the course was taught by lecturers who were active within the music industry and the University itself had a great campus and was close enough to London so that I could commute to gigs.

What was the best or most useful thing about your course?

Aside from the knowledge gained from studying on the course, it allowed me to pursue a multiplicity of internships throughout my time at University, which put me in a great position upon graduating.

What is your stand-out memory from your time at the University?

I'm guessing I can't say something to do with mass alcohol consumption and daily partying? Haha.

Are you still in contact with friends you met at the University of Hertfordshire?

I am indeed, I am very lucky to have made some friends for life at University, although sadly one of them passed away, but University would have never been the same without her.

What advice would you give your younger self if you were starting at the University tomorrow?

Work hard, build good relationships and never take no for an answer. If you're good at what you do, people will recognise you for it no matter how long it takes.

Do you have any advice for University of Hertfordshire graduates who are considering a career in your industry?

This is a tough one, I'd probably say don't turn up to accounting lectures wearing pyjamas, although I still maintain that's a secret to success!

What are your future career plans/ ambitions?

I hope for Incendia Music to be a worldwide force in the rock and metal industry to be reckoned with! We're expanding at a good rate and I hope to make our mark in years to come.
