Graduation ceremonies update (issued on 07 April 2021)

We are pleased to be able to update you on the plans for Graduation.

The proposed dates to hold Graduation Ceremonies at St Albans Cathedral are from Wednesday 1 September to Thursday 16 September 2021, excluding Sundays.

It is hoped to include as many of you as possible in September 2021, but unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate everyone who has graduated in the last two years at this time. As such, our Exams and Awards Team have emailed a survey to all eligible graduates to determine your interest - if you wish to be invited to a ceremony it is compulsory that you complete this survey by the deadline advised in your email. If you have not received this survey and you think you should have, please contact the Exams and Awards Team by emailing

If you are not able to attend in September 2021, it is still hoped to be able to offer all of the Class of 2020 and 2021 graduates the chance to attend a physical ceremony at some point in the future.

The health and safety of staff, graduates, and their guests remain our top priority and these dates will be dependent on Government guidelines and social distancing rules. A final decision will be made at the end of June 2021, in line with the Government's roadmap for easing restrictions in England.

Your memories

It would be great to hear your reflections from your time at Herts and how you completed your studies in a global pandemic. Your story will inspire others to achieve their best despite any challenging circumstances the future may hold.

We’d also love to hear about what you're up to now. How are you making your way in the world as a Herts graduate?

To help you share your story with us, or offer your advice to fellow students and graduates, we've devised some questions for you to think about:

  • what are your favourite memories or experiences from your time as a Herts student? This could be the friends you made, an inspiring tutor, great careers advice, a club or society activity for example
  • how did you find the experience of completing your studies in a global pandemic? What advice would you give to others facing a similar situation?
  • what have you been up to since finishing your studies? This could be anything from volunteering, starting a graduate job, teaching, setting up your own business or returning to study
  • how have you navigated the jobs market? Have you made any changes to the direction of your career path?
  • have you accessed the support available to you from our careers and employability services? If so what tools or advice have you found most helpful?

We also look forward to hearing any other thoughts or comments you would like to share.

Follow this link to tell us your story. You will need to login or register with our Alumni Portal, to complete the form, but it only takes a few minutes. Through the portal you can also easily send us a video message, using the upload button, and share photos. We would really love to see these too!
