University of Hertfordshire offers unique Doctorate in Public Health

The internationally acclaimed Schools of Health and Social Work (HSK) and Life and Medical Sciences (LMS) at the University of Hertfordshire are offering a new Professional Doctorate in Public Health specifically designed to develop the research and leadership capabilities of practitioners in the field.

More than 80 per cent of the research conducted by HSK has been rated as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ whilst 90 per cent of research at LMS has been rated as international excellent in terms of impact. The unique Doctorate marks their commitment to public health and well-being.

The five-year multi-disciplinary and multi-professional doctorate is part-time and is suitable even for the most senior public health professionals. Underpinned by current theory, ethical, legal, socio-political, economic and governance frameworks it provides an exceptional pathway for postgraduate research in the science of public health.

University of Hertfordshire academics are experts in in behavioural, social and environmental sciences spanning all areas of public health. Doctoral candidates, will study from home or work combining guided learning with intensive supervision. Students are required to attend the University 2-3 times a year.

Professor Wendy Wills, Director of the Centre for Research in Public Health and Community Care, said:

“This is a unique programme of advanced study, the purpose of which is to foster the development of research competent practitioners and policy professionals so that they may apply sound research evidence with which to shape public health.

“The doctorate, which will cover public health issues of local, national and international importance, demonstrates our commitment to public health and is being delivered in a way that is sympathetic to people with busy professional and personal lives. After gaining the award, individuals will be ideally placed to progress their public health careers.”
