On Wednesday 13 February we were delighted to welcome five alumni back on campus to take part in the 2019 Humanities Conference.
The event was aimed at informing and inspiring Humanities students to think about their next steps and the options open to them after graduation.
Taking place in the Weston Auditorium, the conference was opened by Dean of the School Anne Murphy who was followed by Keynote Speaker and senior Alumnus, Alistair Spalding, CBE (BA (Hons) Humanities, 1979). Alistair is the Creative Director at the world famous Sadler’s Wells theatre and gave the students an entertaining and thoughtful insight to how his career didn’t take a conventional route to get him where he is today.
There followed a Q & A session which contained four alumni panellists and industry professionals. Whilst not yet as established as Alistair, Jamie Fewery (BA (Hons) English Literature and Philosophy, 2010), Ellie Pilcher (BA (Hons) Creative Writing and History, 2016), Micheal Slade BA (Hons) Philosophy with Humanities, 2018 and Mike Jones (BA (Hons) English Literature 2013) all offered their experience and advice into how the current students can get ahead in their chosen careers.
The Conference was attended by over 200 students.
