The University of Hertfordshire School of Humanities has partnered with actress and stand-up comedian Helen Lederer for a new literary award.
The Comedy Women in Print Award (CWIP) is being launched with the aim of raising the profile of female comic writing and showcasing their talents. The award will officially launch at the event during the Edinburgh Fringe on 24 August and is currently calling for submissions in two categories – Comedy Fiction by Unpublished Writers and Comedy Fiction by a Publisher Writer.
The prize for an unpublished manuscript will be a place on the MA in Creative Writing at the University of Hertfordshire, along with £1,000 in cash. The published winner will take home £2,000 in prize money.
Judges for the award include best-selling novelist Marian Keyes,The Telegraph journalist and novelist Allison Pearson as well as Dr Jennifer Young, novelist and Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Hertfordshire.
Entrants to the unpublished category must submit a one-page synopsis and the first 5,000 words of their comedy novel. Entrants must be over 18-years-old and can be of any nationality.
Entries can be made on the Comedy Women in Print Award website from 24 August 2018 until 31 January 2019.
