Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics event a great success
On Wednesday 21 March the School of Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics was delighted to welcome back three alumni to talk to current students about their careers since graduation.
The event, organised in conjunction with the Careers and Employment Service and the Alumni department, was enjoyed by students who came along to gain industry insights and advice from our special guests in a speed networking format.
Nick Buttenshaw ( Astrophysics, 2011 - Hamamatsu Photonics), Liz Dodd (Astrophysics, 2009, PhD Astronomy 2014 - Amazon) and Brendan McGowan (Mathematics, 2009 - The Shared Learning Trust) all spoke candidly and with great enthusiasm about their lives since leaving the University and the many opportunities that are on offer for graduates.
Students also had the opportunity to ask questions and speak to the alumni in a one on one situation after the event as everyone enjoyed a well-earned buffet lunch!
Liz said about the event, 'I thoroughly enjoyed coming back to the university and participating in the career event for undergraduates. I think it’s a good start at helping inform current students of their possibilities after University. I found it very rewarding and enjoyed meeting the students and the staff!'
Speaking on behalf of the Alumni Team, John Murphy said 'Events like these are hugely popular and beneficial to all involved. The feedback from students is always excellent and we are very grateful to our speakers for giving back and talking to the current students.'.
