The University of Hertfordshire’s Futsal Club has been recognised by The Hertfordshire FA Community Awards 2017.

The awards recognise and reward grassroots clubs, coaches and volunteers across the county who keep the national game alive.

Winners were selected by a panel of Hertfordshire FA representatives including 1966 World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst. The University’s Futsal Club won the Recognition of Outstanding Achievement Award in the 2016/17 Season.

Futsal, an up and coming FIFA version of 5-a-side football, is a sport that requires players to be quick-thinking within a fast-paced environment; which, when combined with high levels of technical skills, creates an intense, strategic game.

This season the University’s Men’s 1st Team won the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) South Eastern Premier Division, while the Men’s 3rd Team achieved an FA Futsal Fives title. The Women’s 1st Team also won their first BUCS title in what is only their second season as a team.

Lucas Nettleford, the University’s Futsal Club President said:

“We are delighted to receive this award to celebrate the club’s success this season. Every accomplishment begins with the decision to try! The long hours, hard work, commitment and a desire to go that extra mile which was shown by everyone at the club has helped make it the success that it is today.”
