Philosophical discussions of the cognitive value(s) of fictional literature typically presuppose that the search is for a distinctive contribution to cognition. For this reason, the relevance of truth or accuracy construed as what makes non-fiction valuable is typically dismissed. I argue that this is a mistake, illustrating the argument by considering one cognitive value often attributed to fictional literature: psychological insight.
