School of Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics summer student has made the final of the national "Big Bang Science Fair" competition.

Emily Wickens, a School of Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics summer student, has made the final of the national "Big Bang Science Fair" competition (to be held in March at Birmingham's NEC). Working with Professor David Pinfield and PAM undergraduate student Matthew Thorne, Emily searched for moving infrared objects in the direction of the Galactic centre. This region of sky is a challenge for astronomers because it is extremely crowded with background stars. However, Emily was able to identify some rare and unusual objects that were previously undiscovered.
