Dr Alana Jelinek draws on her teaching of BA Fine Art and her research as an artist into the role and value of art in society to discuss creativity and metaphor, drawing out themes from her forthcoming publication, 'Between Discipline and a Hard Place: the Role of Contemporary Art' (Bloomsbury 2020).

About Dr Alana Jelinek

Alana Jelinek is a practising artist and also writes on the theory of art, focusing on the role and value of art in society. She wrote her PhD thesis on 'art as a democratic act' and followed this with further research as a practitioner and theorist in 3 different post-doctoral research positions. The first two were with the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge, and the third is with the University of Hertfordshire.
